OurBrainBank Introduction (2019)

OurBrainBank is an innovative, patient-led movement designed to move glioblastoma (GBM) from terminal to treatable, powered by patients. It's the first non-profit created by, for, and with people with GBM, a rare and deadly brain cancer. 12,000 people are diagnosed with GBM in the US each year; the 5-year survival rate is 5%. Founder Jessica Morris was diagnosed with GBM in January 2016.

OurBrainBank App
Our key tool is a study that patients or care partners join by using our free mobile device app. The app works in two ways: it empowers patients and caregivers, and it furthers GBM research.

The app enables people to track their symptoms and treatments—an essential path to coping and surviving. Research shows that patients who self-track and share their health data have better outcomes and survival rates. At present, we have over 500 people using the app and have collected 8000+ data points.

To take part, participants download the app from the App Store or Google Play (registration code: OBB100; non-patients use code OBBdemo). The app is available in the US, and we are working on global expansion.

We have achieved tremendous success engaging a dynamic community of people affected by GBM throughout the world via social media, our e-newsletter, YouTube channel, live video chats, top-tier media titles, and personal emails and calls. Our private Facebook group has 500+ members and is growing daily.

OBB Engage, Explore, Empower: our three strategic, interrelated programs
- OBB Explore sees neuro-oncologists use our patient data and methodology in new clinical trials for GBM.
- OBB Engage focuses on patient-centered advocacy, calling for institutional, financial, medical and regulatory reform.
- OBB Empower is a novel approach to increase the opportunities for GBM patients to enter clinical trials.
